[Falcon 4 BMS] Mirage 2000-5 : Akrotiri airfield familiarization 1

Now that I am based in the RAF base at Akrotiri LCRA, I will have to familiarize with it. First exercise is, of course, circuit pattern training.

This airbase has only one runway 11/29 (10/28 in reality).  Today the 11 is in use. The circuit has to be carried out right hand at 1200 ft QFE.

[FSX] Mirage 2000-5 : Flying to a new horizon

Today I went back on FSX to move on to a brand new area of operation : Israel for Falcon 4 BMS.

This flight ends the training session in Ikaros. The aim is now to modify an existing campaign in F4 BMS to add a Mirage 2000-5 squadron based in Akrotiri LCRA. And from there I plan to get involved in a campaign...

To close the Ikaros chapter, here is the map of the different flights I did.
In blue are the flights under Falcon 4 and in green are those in FSX, recorded thanks to BlackBox Flight Logger

See you soon for the next chapter...

[Falcon 4 BMS] Mirage 2000-5 : Night navigation

Today I'm planning a really easy flight from Mikonos LGMK to Leros LGLE in order to start night operations. In deed, it is the first time I will fly at night in F4 BMS. This is the opportunity to improve my check-lists.

I will take off at 4 a.m. then fly toward Ikaria Island. I will carry on fence-in check-list then turn south. There I will carry on the fence-out check-list. Finally, I will contact Leros Tower to be guided to the airstrip where I will land and stop my engine.

The first thing I will have to add to my check-list is the use of the flashlight (shft + s) in order to operate the cockpit by night. Unfortunately, it requires the batteries to be on, why can't this pilot owns a hand light? Then I will also add the NVG check.

Ready to take-off
Well I finally did it and took off...

In flight
No problem with the fence-in and fence-out check-lists except that I will have to consider cockpit and instrument lighting (off while fence-in, then on for fence-out).

Flying with NVG

Cockpit operation with NVG

Following this flight I will have 7 more lines to add to my check-lists...

The new check-list is now available in 0.9.4 in the Documentation section or directly here

With the war on ISIS, terrorist activities are increasing in. Small teams are perpetrating attacks on high valuable civilian targets. Through massive shooting, bombing or hijacking they intend to destabilize western European countries.

  • SPECIFIC SITUATION :
This morning at 06 am an AIRBUS A-320 matriculated SX-DNA belonging to AEGAN took off from KAVAL Airport with 186 passengers on board . Shortly after its take off, the plane was hijacked and rerouted to KASTELI on demand of the hijacker. For fear of an attack by crashing the plane, a F16 patrol was immediately sent to intercept and make contact with the Airbus.

  • ENEMIES :
We had no contact with the airplane and we don't know yet how many hijackers there are and what are their intentions. They are to be considered as well trained and determinate terrorists.

  • FRIENDS :
1x E3 AWACS is covering the entire area of operation, call sign "CHALLIS 1"

EXERCISE - EXERCISE - EXERCISE

As soon as I got my briefing, I jumped in my plane to scramble. After take off, I immediately turn to my second steer point keeping full post combustion to reach 450 knots.

I easily find the Airbus with my radar. Then I turn it off not to expose the passengers to the radiations.

Then I come close to the target to confirm identification

And all the flight is about flying in close formation with the A-320.

Then it finally comes to the final course and lower it's landing gear

I follow it until it touches the ground

And then I go back to my landing airbase
